OMD has released their latest single, ‘Kleptocracy,’ which according to a press release, is their “greatest straight-up protest song.” The track is from the band’s newest album, ‘Bauhaus Staircase.’ The album, which is their first in three years, follows the band’s 40th anniversary. OMD, consisting of Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, is currently on tour across Europe and the UK.

In an official statement, McCluskey stated: “This is the most political song that we have ever recorded. Sadly, we are living through times that see us ruled by thieves and flagrant liars. Democracy has been subverted by Kleptocracy”. He added, “The band believes that democracy is the only legitimate way to balance different opinions and create a functioning representative government.”

OMD’s 2024 UK and European tour dates include shows across various cities such as Berlin, Glasgow, and Southend-On-Sea. Despite the diverse locations, the upcoming concerts will be the first time in six years where the duo will have the chance to feature new music for a live performance. McCluskey revealed in the tour press release that the “songs from Bauhaus Staircase will fit beautifully into our setlist – we just have to choose which five to play, as we have to treat people to the hits as well!”

OMD’s latest release speaks to the chaos and crisis that is happening globally. Through their music, they address current political issues and stress the importance of democracy. The band’s newest album is a perfect fit for their widespread tour, expanding the message of their new music to a larger audience
