Are you interested in pursuing a career in film and TV? Liverpool City Council’s Film Office has launched a brand-new skills initiative called ‘Action’ for people wanting to kickstart their career. The programme will run for the next three years and aims to support around 1,000 people who want to join the industry by providing a free, innovative skills programme. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to build a stronger and more diverse film sector in the Liverpool City Region.
Those who will be part of the programme can look forward to career surgeries, training, industry bootcamps, workshops, masterclasses, additional employability assets, and opportunities to work on set. Aspiring individuals can register as a ‘New Entrant’ via the Liverpool Film Office Crew database and select the department that they are most intrigued in. They must also be 18 or over, living in the Liverpool City Region, and have the right to work in the UK. The programme is not open to those who are currently pursuing further or higher education.
Action! is made possible by £2.3m of BFI National Lottery funding given to Screen Alliance North, a new skills cluster partnership that is delivered by Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester, and Screen Yorkshire. Its purpose is to make the screen sector more accessible and representative while building a skilled workforce in the North of England.
Those who would like to know more about the Action! initiative and how to register can visit the Liverpool Film Office’s official website. Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle, said that Action! would deliver fantastic opportunities for people wanting to turn their dreams into reality. The Film Office’s aim is to give everyone, no matter their background, an opportunity to work in the industry. The programme will assist in tackling the skill gap, providing life-changing opportunities for those who need them the most.
Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment, and Skills, Councillor Lila Bennett, added that Action! has the potential to transform the journey of those fortunate enough to be part of the programme. As a City Council, they look forward to doing everything in their power to equip residents with the skills they need to be employment-ready, creating diverse and inclusive sectors such as the TV and film industry. Meanwhile, Head of Liverpool Film Office, Lynn Saunders said that they are delighted to announce Action! and can’t wait for a new cohort of film and TV crew coming through their training process, kickstarting their careers. They want to bridge the gap for securing a first job by providing tailored opportunities to meet specific skillsets.
