Vampire Weekend tease new music with a cryptic video

Indie rock band, Vampire Weekend, has hinted at releasing new music by sharing an enigmatic video on its social media accounts. Composed of band members Ezra Koenig, Chris Tomson, and Chris Baio, Vampire Weekend uploaded a video that features images of carnivals, pinball machines, highways, and space, accompanied by a piano and drums piece. The post’s caption “OGWAUteaser1.mp4” has caused confusion among avid fans.

During last month’s announcement of their live album, which was recorded in Milan, Vampire Weekend revealed the completion of their fifth album. According to bassist Chris Baio’s newsletter “The Quarterly Report” that comes along with the album, “LP5 IS DONE.” Earlier in July, drummer, Chris Tomson, divulged that the new album pays homage to raga, an Indian classical music genre and was “close to being done.” Ezra Koenig took a raga singing lesson from Terry Riley in rural Japan, following which he wrote “seven of his top 10 best songs,” according to Tomson.

The band’s critics applauded their last album, 2019’s ‘Father Of The Bride’. NME’s review called it a “killer punchline six years in the making” with a sound that appears “fun and familiar but pushes the band into bold new territory.” In other news, Vampire Weekend will be headlining Hinterland Festival in 2024 and performing at the New Orleans Jazz Festival alongside Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones, and Neil Young. The band has also been tapped to perform at Primavera festival and headlining Kilby Block Party 2024 in Utah.

Although the band has teased its new album, it remains unclear when it will be officially released. However, with little hints being dropped, fans remain excited and curious, eagerly anticipating the new material from Vampire Weekend
