The star of the post-apocalyptic horror film, 28 Days Later, Cillian Murphy, has said he is available for the sequel, titled 28 Years Later. During an interview as part of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Conversations programme, Murphy spoke at length about his work on 28 Days Later and other acting roles. The original zombie-style film, released in 2002, sees Murphy playing a bicycle courier who wakes up to find society collapsed due to a virus. A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was released in 2008 and received critical acclaim.
It has recently been announced that 28 Years Later is currently in development, with both Danny Boyle and Alex Garland returning to the franchise. Murphy is set to be an executive producer for the new film. With the character he played surviving the initial outbreak in 28 Days Later, Murphy’s role in the sequel could be much larger.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, 28 Days Later had an even greater impact, as lockdown orders from governments around the world mimicked the opening scenes of the film. Murphy commented on this, adding that “It just shows that good writing is prescient, it always remains prescient and relevant.”
Murphy’s latest movie, Oppenheimer, is due to be released in 2023. It has been announced that it will be directed by Christopher Nolan, known for his work on Inception and Interstellar, and it will explore the life of J.
