London’s Paul Stopler Gallery has teamed up with Brian Eno to release Turntable II, the latest iteration of Eno’s signature colour-changing LED turntables. Just 150 units are due to become available online on Tuesday, February 13, 2021. The turntables are currently on view at the gallery until March 9, 2021.
The first iteration of Eno’s light-up record players was released more than two years ago. This time, the turntables use adaptive light technology that changes colour independently and seamlessly. The soft colours and the way in which they merge is particularly seductive, Eno explained.
Eno continues the continuity from the last run of record players—the units are made up of a platter and a base—are programmed to change colour randomly and slowly. Each Turntable II will allow the user to play both 33rpm and 45rpm vinyl.
The sound and visual fusion achieved by Eno’s technology is a product of his fascination for the unpredictable results produced by simple deterministic systems. Speaking on his experiments with light and sound in 2018, Eno explained that out of simplicity, complexity arises.
Each turntable is priced at £20,000 and comes with a signature from Eno and an individual edition number engraved into the side of the base. Find out more about the limited edition Turntable II on Paul Stopler Gallery’s website.
