David Guetta has remixed the U2 single ‘Atomic City’ from their September 2021 release. The Irish rock band released the original single during the residency of their 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby’ at the Las Vegas venue, MSG Sphere. The remix by Guetta has infused the single with an electronic dance music (EDM) twist. Despite not performing in Los Angeles, U2 made an appearance at the 2024 Grammys with a performance of ‘Atomic City’ broadcasted from the Las Vegas Sphere. The camera captured all sides of the experience from the technologically advanced new venue through the LED screens on the venue’s shell and the 360-degree view of the audience, band, and space.
At one of their Sphere shows earlier in 2024, U2 paid tribute to Crowded House by playing their song ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’. The band has recently released a video of them playing ‘Even Better Than The Real Thing’ from their residency at the Sphere. U2 is also rumored to be working on a new album, with Bono stating it would be “an unreasonable guitar record” with “big choruses” in a statement to NME earlier in 2021.
Regarding their medical status, Larry Mullen Jr. has been recovering from neck surgery. In an interview in November, Bono said that the new album was “somewhat tied” to Mullen’s medical status. While Mullen pulled out of playing at the band’s Las Vegas residency, they continued to perform despite his absence.
U2 has been performing their full album ‘Achtung Baby’ in various shows that will last until March. Guetta’s remix of ‘Atomic City’ has given the single a new edge appropriate for an EDM twist.
