King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, although it is not prostate cancer. The diagnosis came during treatment for an enlarged prostate. The type of cancer has not been disclosed, but it was announced that the King began “regular treatments” on Monday. First Minister Mark Drakeford sent his best wishes to the King, with a statement saying that his thoughts and those of people across Wales would be with him and his family.

Cancer charity Tenovus’ chief executive, Judi Rhys, praised the King for catching it early, stating that “it just goes to show how important it is that things are caught early, often before you even know that you have it.” The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, commented that the news is bound to be a profoundly unsettling piece of news at a time when symbols of stability and dependability are so vital for our well-being.
Archbishop of Wales Andrew John offered his special prayers for the King’s “swift recovery to full health.” and added: “His Majesty has always had a special relationship with the people of Wales, and I know they will hold him and his family in their hearts and in their thoughts at this time.” Senedd presiding officer Elin Jones also sent her best wishes to the King as he begins his cancer treatment.
Welsh Secretary and Monmouth MP David TC Davies wished the King a speedy recovery on behalf of everyone across Wales. Plaid Cymru leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth, applauded the King for his openness and commended him for discussing his diagnosis. It is not known what treatment the King will be receiving or how long he will require hospitalization
