The Libertines have recently performed covers of Buddy Holly’s classic hit ‘That’ll Be The Day’ and Love’s ‘Alone Again Or’ for their session on BBC Radio 2. They were joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra and Ed Harcourt on piano. Notably, their performance of ‘That’ll Be The Day’ was in line with the memory of the late Holly, who died in a tragic accident in 1959.
Pete Doherty, Carl Barât, and company also played a rendition of ‘Alone Again Or’ in the BBC Radio 2 Piano Room. The song initially featured on Love’s 1967 album ‘Love Changes’. The covered versions of both classic hits are available to watch below.
Last year, The Libertines announced the release of their highly anticipated new album, ‘All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade,’ which is set to be released on March 8th. The album’s most recent single is ‘Shiver,’ which the band debuted earlier this year.
According to Doherty in an interview with NME, ‘Shiver’ alludes to how the band watched the funeral procession of Queen Elizabeth while recording the album in Jamaica. “It was really strange,” he said. “We were in this glass cubicle on a hilltop during a full-on hurricane, just watching the funeral and not really knowing what we were feeling.
In other news, The Libertines are set to mid-way through an intimate UK club tour; the remaining tour dates are as follows: Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion on the 11th of February, Southampton’s Engine Rooms on the 12th, Stoke’s Underground on the 14th, Leeds’ The Wardrobe on the 15th, and Glasgow’s Oran Mor on the 16th.
