During a recent episode of US live comedy show Saturday Night Live, Ayo Edebiri addressed previous comments she had made about Jennifer Lopez. The two shared the stage as Edebiri made her debut as host and Lopez performed a musical set. In one of SNL’s sketches, Edebiri referenced comments made by Laci Mosley about the singer-actor’s career, in which Mosley described it as “one long scam”. Edebiri said “Okay, we get it,” she said. “It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”
Edebiri’s SNL appearance came after she recently won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work on The Bear. Besides starring in the show, Edebiri has acted in the cult comedy film Bottoms, and worked as a writer on various programmes including Big Mouth and Dickinson.
In addition to Edebiri’s work on SNL, a recent announcement revealed that Edebiri had dropped out of Marvel’s upcoming ensemble film Thunderbolts, leaving the role to be taken up by Geraldine Viswanathan. It has not yet been confirmed what Edebiri’s undisclosed project is.
Lopez is set to release new album This Is Me…Now on February 16, marking her first release of original material in over a decade. On the other hand, The Bear has been listed as one of the best TV series of 2023 according to NME, who praised its depiction of “the shit endlessly hitting the fan”, while noting that it was the “flashbacks, side-steps and breath-catching across these 10 perfect episodes that charred, sliced and tenderized harder than any of the kitchen chaos.” Additionally, an announcement about the third season of the show was made earlier this year; it will see a return to “a functioning kitchen atmosphere,” lead actor Jeremy Allen White revealed.
Proving her calibre and versatility, Edebiri has left her mark on both comedic and dramatic productions thus far in her career. It will be exciting to see what she works on next and what contributions she will make.
