A young man from Ashford, Kent, has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer after a hit-and-run in Coulter Road. Barry Rossiter, aged 23, was also charged with assaulting an emergency worker and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The officer was hit by a car that failed to stop at the scene while they were on foot. The officer sustained severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Rossiter appeared at Maidstone Crown Court and was remanded until Tuesday’s hearing at Canterbury Crown Court. The incident led the arrest of four other people, two men aged 19 and 37, and two women aged 19 and 32, all from the Ashford area, who were subsequently bailed. The police also arrested a 19-year-old man from Ashford, who remains in custody since Friday.
