Angela Rippon, the presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, has revealed that she suffered a “serious asthma attack” while on stage during the Strictly live tour. Rippon shared the news with her followers on Instagram, explaining that the medical issue happened while dancing in Liverpool earlier in the week. After being treated by paramedics, Rippon missed some shows to rest, confident she said she was “dancing fit” again and returned to the tour in Manchester on Saturday.
The former presenter has been on the dancing show before and made it to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom special last year before being eliminated. Since then, she joined the cast of the live tour, which started last month at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham and went to various cities in the UK.
In her video post, Rippon elaborated on the incident, sharing that she had picked up an infection in Liverpool, which went straight to her chest, massively affecting her breathing. Fortunately, the paramedics on site gave her oxygen and helped her offstage. A doctor in Leeds then confirmed that her infection was worse than they thought, and she had to rest for two days.
In a statement, the Strictly live tour confirmed that Rippon missed two performances in Leeds but had returned to the tour on Saturday. Rippon, who presents Rip-Off Britain and hosted the Eurovision Song Contest, thanked everyone for their “lovely messages” of support
