Lily Allen teases 50 songs written for new album

Singer and actor Lily Allen has revealed that she has written around 50 new songs for her upcoming album. Responding to a fan’s tweet questioning why none of the 40 recorded songs for Lily’s fifth project had been released yet, she cheekily responded that they had written “more like 50 now”. It is currently unclear whether the previously unreleased song, ‘Party Line’, that Lily Allen debuted live in 2018 will be released after a fan asked about it.

After returning to the studio following a special guest performance at Olivia Rodrigo’s Glastonbury 2022 set last year, Allen credited the performance with sparking inspiration in her to write and record new music. She had previously worked on a new album in 2020 and was also writing for three musicals, but none of this music has been released yet. Lily Allen’s involvement in the Bridget Jones’ Diary musical was put on hold following delays, despite Allen and Greg Kurstin composing original music for the show in 2012.

As well as music, Allen has gained a reputation in acting, having appeared in a number of productions both on stage and screen, including the plays ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’ and ‘The Pillowman’, as well as films such as ‘How To Build A Girl’ and comedy series ‘Dreamland’. The latter scored a four-star review with Nick Levine writing for NME that it is a “warm, well-observed show with characters you’ll care about because their flaws and foibles are all too human.
