Konami’s horror franchise Silent Hill has released a new game, titled Silent Hill: The Short Message, which is currently available for free on PlayStation 5. The game was first leaked in 2022, with a South Korean board rating spotted for it, with no indication of its release or if it was still in development. However, the game is officially live and is available exclusively on PlayStation 5 for free. The game was released during the PlayStation State of Play and producer Motoi Okamato explains that this game shows off the potential future of the Silent Hill franchise beyond the already announced games such as Silent Hill 2 remake and the upcoming Silent Hill: Townfall.
The game is relatively short and takes about two hours to complete, and Okamato stated that this is a new and modern Silent Hill that explores contemporary problems. The game is focused on how modern youth communicates online and through phones and how it affects them psychologically. According to Okamato, the game shows these young characters who are suffering and lost where even minor setbacks can push them deep into a spiral of anguish. Thus, the smallest kindness can prevent them from falling apart.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is the signed message to the contemporary generation, who is suffering from societal conflicts and pressure daily. The game explores how young people are genuinely struggling and searching for the slightest glimmer of hope to hold onto. Okamato hopes that the game will help the players sense the message and feel the weight of hopelessness felt by today’s generation.
In other gaming news, Death Stranding 2 has confirmed its 2025 release date and unveiled the subtitle for the game. The game is expected to be as highly anticipated as its predecessor, which is known for its challenging gameplay, graphics, and immersive storyline. The game is developed by Kojima Productions and will be available to be played on PlayStation 5
