Liverpool City Region is looking for experts to secure major sports events for the region. The Sport Liverpool Board, which is in its second term, is hunting for a new Chair and board members to provide advice, make recommendations to the Local Visitor Economy Partnership Board (LVEP) and the six boroughs within the city. One of the key responsibilities of the board is to oversee activities around major sports events taking place in the city, which will boost the local economy and civic pride of the residents, regardless of their age or background, and ensure that future generations will benefit.
The Board is looking for individuals with significant sport sector experience, who have previously worked in strategic leadership roles and have experience in areas such as social impacts, media, PR, marketing, national or international governing bodies, commercial and grant funding, and sports event bidding. The Board has also expressed interest in receiving applications from Former and current sportspeople who offer relevant experience and can provide an athlete voice.
Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle stated that Liverpool is synonymous with sport, and we want to up our game and reach new levels. Brian Barwick OBE, the outgoing Chair of the Sport Liverpool Board, stated that it is very rewarding to secure major national, international, and regional sports events for the city and its surrounding region. The closing date for applications is Sunday 25 February. Successful applicants will receive expenses, but not an allowance or remuneration.
The Liverpool City Region has secured host city status for several events, including the UK and Ireland UEFA EURO 2028 men’s football championships, the World Gymnastics Championships 2022, and the Netball World Cup in 2019. The new members of the board will have the role of spokespersons for major events and will be required to attend board meetings and other events. Besides, they must guarantee that the events are sustainable and leave a legacy for upcoming generations
