Manchester-based group Blossoms have confirmed their involvement in a charity DJ battle held between Manchester and Liverpool to combat homelessness. The mayors of each respective city, Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram, will participate alongside the band and other notable figures from the music industry. This will be the third DJ battle between Rotheram and Burnham, and proceeds will be donated to homelessness initiatives in both cities. The event will take place on Friday, February 2, at Liverpool’s Camp and Furnace venue and tickets can be purchased via the website.
Blossoms, which consists of Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock, has its roots in Stockport and has recently recorded music at Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool. The mayors’ first online DJ showdown took place during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and their second faceoff in December 2022 raised over £25,000. The funds from the upcoming event will go to homeless charity A Bed Every Night. Both mayors have expressed pride in their cities’ efforts to unite through a cultural exchange while also supporting a great cause.
Andy Burnham stated: “It’s going to be bigger and better this time round, as we spread the fundraising and ramp up the noise over in Liverpool.” Steve Rotheram remarked: “Most importantly though, it’s all in aid of a cause that’s very close to all our hearts. Together, we’re showing that the North West will always stand united in support of those who need it most.” Burnham has also spoken out in recent interviews about the importance of galvanising the music industry and combatting deaf ears within Westminster when it comes to music industry issues.
In addition to the DJ battle, Blossoms has also recently been announced as the headliner for the next Club NME event in Manchester. The band has collaborated with Jungle and CMAT on their forthcoming album, adding to their already diverse and growing fanbase
