Michael Watford, a renowned house singer from New Jersey, has passed away at an undisclosed age, according to his son Solomon. The announcement was made via Facebook on January 26th. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Solomon expressed his gratitude to the house music community and public for their support during this difficult time. He also added that more information about the funeral and repast details would be provided later in the week.
Born in Virginia and raised in New Jersey, Michael began his singing career at an early age as part of the gospel group “Discipline of Truth”. Throughout the 90s and 00s, Michael became a prominent figure in the house music scene, releasing several singles, including So Into You which topped the US charts in 1994. He also released Love Change Over and Come Together in 1995, both of which charted in the UK Top 100.
Throughout his career, Michael collaborated with a host of respected house music producers including Kerri Chandler, Roger Sanchez, and Masters At Work. In 1994 he released his eponymous album, which featured a blend of house and garage across 10 tracks released via EastWest Records and Atlantic. His final release came in 2018 on a collaboration with Stefano Sorge called “Hey Everybody.”
