Johnny Marr to appear as contestant on ‘Would I Lie To You?’

Johnny Marr, former guitarist for The Smiths, is set to appear on the popular BBC One panel show, Would I Lie To You? next week. The episode will feature fellow musician Sinitta as well as comedians Jo Brand and Ivo Graham. Would I Lie To You?, first broadcast in 2007, is a comedy panel show in which the hosts Rob Brydon, David Mitchell, and Lee Mack encourage their guests to tell outrageous stories across three rounds: Home Truths, This is My…, and Quick-Fire Lies. Teams are awarded points for correctly guessing whether the stories are true or false.

Would I Lie To You? is currently in its 17th season, with guests including McFly’s Danny Jones, comedian Romesh Ranganathan, and Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker. Other previous contestants include Greg James, John Cooper Clarke, and Madness’s Suggs, as well as musicians Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Lily Allen, Lady Leshurr, and Tinchy Stryder. The episode with Marr will air on Friday, February 9th, on BBC One.

Marr recently announced UK co-headlining shows with The Charlatans for this summer, and a 2024 greatest hits tour in support of his compilation album Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr. Speaking to NME about the album, Marr said: “Someone asked me about it the other day and said, ‘Look, it’s a double album full of bangers.’ Being an artist or songwriter you kind of go, ‘What does that mean?’ On reflection, I think a double album full of bangers? There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Marr’s appearance on Would I Lie To You? is sure to be entertaining for fans of the guitarist and the show alike
