Actress Jodie Foster has named two movies that she believes are essential viewing for everyone, one of which may come as a surprise. In an interview with Interview magazine, when asked to pick the movie she thinks everyone should see during their lifetime, Foster replied with the 2022 comedy drama movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. The movie stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis and received significant critical acclaim, making more than $143 million at the box office and winning Best Picture at the 2023 Oscars. From indie film studio, A24, the movie follows a Chinese immigrant who becomes embroiled in a complex and chaotic adventure involving time and space.
Foster added that the other movie she believes people should watch is the 2004 puppet comedy movie Team America: World Police directed by South Park’s Trey Parker. The movie satirizes American militarism and government while poking fun at stereotypical action films and the representation of the United States. The film follows a parliamentary police force that recruits a Broadway actor to help save the world from dictatorship, terrorism, and liberal Hollywood actors.
When asked why she chose these particular movies, Foster explained that she has a “very dumb sense of humor” and likes to laugh about really intense things. For her, humor is her touchstone.
Despite being famous for her performances in movies such as The Silence Of The Lambs and Taxi Driver, it is surprising to hear Foster list two comedies as essential viewing. Nonetheless, these two films showcase her appreciation for diverse genres and her ability to appreciate humor and satire
