Milly Alcock, the Australian actress who is best known for her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, has been cast as Supergirl in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Reports state that Alcock beat out competition from Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly for the role of Kara Zor-El. Gunn confirmed the casting news, stating that he was “incredibly excited” to have Alcock be a part of the DCU.

According to separate reports in Deadline Hollywood and Variety, Alcock could appear in a DC film before headlining her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The latter title is based on a 2022 comic and portrays the titular hero as “much more hardcore” than previous iterations of the character.

Alcock joins a growing list of actors who are part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. This includes David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor for Superman: Legacy.

Superman: Legacy is slated for release on July 11, 2025, and is part of the new DC Universe. Gunn has been tapped to direct several films within the franchise, and has promised that all films in the DC Universe will be connected in some way
