Marvel’s upcoming ensemble film, ‘Thunderbolts’, has experienced another change in its cast list as ‘The Bear’ star Ayo Edebiri will no longer be appearing in the film. According to a report by Variety, Edebiri has had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with an unspecified project. However, details surrounding Edebiri’s and Geraldine Viswanathan’s role in the film are currently under wraps. Viswanathan will be stepping in to replace Edebiri, following Steven Yeun in leaving the film due to scheduling conflicts.
Despite requests for comment from Marvel, the production company refused to shed any light on Edebiri’s departure. Viswanathan is recognized for her roles in films such as ‘Blockers’ and ‘Bad Education’, and the rest of the ensemble consists of Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Olga Kurylenko who will be playing the titular team of reformed villains in ‘Thunderbolts’.
Additionally, the production is facing a delay of one year, pushing its original July 2024 release date to July 2025. Last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood has been cited as the primary reason for the delay, which will allow time for the new cast members to get settled and for post-production work to be completed.
Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ is often likened to DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ and follows an antihero team of reformed villains who take on the tasks that the Avengers can’t. While the upcoming film has already experienced its fair share of cast changes, fans are eagerly anticipating its release next year
