AEG submits plans for three-year extension on Victoria Park license

AEG, the operator of All Points East festival, has submitted an application for an extension on its licensing agreement to hold events at Victoria Park in East London. AEG owns Coachella and BST Hyde Park, and currently has a license to the public park in place until September 30, 2024. However, the company has submitted an updated proposal in accordance with the major events policy that’s being considered by the council. If approved, AEG will have a license that will cover the use of the park for 11 days yearly between April and September from 2024 to 2026.

AEG will be granted permission for a new two-day event in May/June 2024, which the company will hope to extend to a double weekend in 2025 and 2026. The new event proposal will be in addition to the ongoing All Points East and In the Neighbourhood series’. AEG is yet to confirm the format or brand that this new event series will take form under.

Tower Hamlets Council is currently reconsidering and revising their events policy in relation to Victoria Park. The policy revision would allow mediums-sized events, which are currently limited to around 500 people, to increase to 5,000. The large event cap is set to increase to 20,000, while major events will remain at the current 50,000 limit. There will also be an increase of 12 capped events each year that would run in the park.

There have been concerns about the proposal from local residents, who are particularly concerned about the noise levels the large events may produce and the frequency of the events. Tower Hamlets Council has already taken measures to provide an operation that keeps disruption caused by events to a minimum. The council plans to work closely with Victoria Park Friends in continuing to work towards achieving minimal disruption to park users and local residents
