Having recently released his latest film, “Killers Of The Flower Moon”, Martin Scorsese has spoken about why he doesn’t go to watch his own films in the cinema. In an interview with Variety, the director admitted that he avoided sneaking into screenings because he’s short and there’s always a big person in front of him.
Scorsese also spoke about becoming a big fan of IMAX screenings as he’s gotten older. “You go in, you can sit up in the back and you’re sort of looking up. Regular screenings, I have found the audiences becoming a bit more raucous than they used to be.”
Despite this, Scorsese emphasized the importance of supporting films while they’re on the big screen and urged viewers to watch films in their theatrical runs. “But maybe it’s always like in the 50s when we used to yell back at the screen. But it’s very important to me to support films while they’re on the big screen. I just wait a while.”
Scorsese recently became the living director with the most Oscar nominations after scoring his 10th nod for “Killers Of The Flower Moon”, surpassing Steven Spielberg’s record of nine. The upcoming Academy Awards will feature competition from Christopher Nolan for “Oppenheimer”, Justine Triet for “Anatomy Of A Fall”, Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Things”, and Jonathan Glazer for “The Zone Of Interest”.
Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio, a regular collaborator with Scorsese, recently revealed that he turned the director to Studio Ghibli films by recommending two Hayao Miyazaki movies. “Other than maybe Spirited Away – Miyazaki’s films – and maybe Princess Mononoke,” DiCaprio said
