Rob Halford, the frontman for heavy metal band Judas Priest, has expressed his belief that Ozzy Osbourne should be awarded a knighthood. In an interview with Classic Rock magazine, Halford claimed that if one person deserves to be knighted, it’s Osbourne. He cited the joy that Osbourne has brought to people throughout his career in music, particularly in driving the metal genre forward.
Halford is one of many to support the campaign to get Osbourne knighted, which has been active for more than a decade. A petition calling for his knighthood in 2014 gained over 20,000 signatures, although the campaign page is currently unavailable.
Interestingly, in his interview with Classic Rock, Halford recounted the time he met Queen Elizabeth via Cilla Black and discussed heavy metal music with her. When the Queen asked him why heavy metal had to be so loud, Halford responded that it was so people could bang their heads.
