Alice In Chains reissue ‘Jar Of Flies’ on vinyl – filled with real dead flies

Alice In Chains, the Seattle-born rock band, has unveiled a reissued ‘Jar Of Flies’ vinyl that encases actual dead flies. As part of the celebration of the group’s third studio EP, they collaborated with Romanus Records to produce a limited edition of clear vinyl, with countless dead flies enclosed within the record. There were only 150 copies of the rare pressing, which retailed at $100 (£79) each, and all units quickly sold out. The vinyl company, Romanus Records, which created this quirky album, has made earlier endeavours to produce unique record collections, like a maggot-filled disc for Pat & The Pissers.

According to Chris Banta, who officially unveiled the latest vinyl release on social media, procuring real-dead flies turned out to be quite a challenging task. Banta writes, “Absolutely iconic band, album, and more. Video and more behind-the-scenes content to come!” As per reports, Alice In Chains has also launched a limited-edition 30th-anniversary box set with an embossed logo jar with a touch-activated red LED light and imitation flies, a Jar Of Flies tri-color vinyl, a 60-page hardcover album, a 24″ x 24″ double-sided poster, and packed in a screen-printed, UV-coated 4.5″ H shadow box.

Additionally, the group has also launched 30th anniversary ‘Jar Of Flies’ merch, which incorporates a skateboard deck and a customized poker collection. The EP, which was initially released in 1993, reached the # 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 and number four on the UK Charts. Furthermore, the record sold over 141,000 copies in the United States. The band self-produced the EP and recorded over one week at the London Bridge Studio in Seattle. All lyrics were penned by the late frontman of the band, Layne Staley.

The EP earned two Grammy nominations in 1995, one for Best Recording Package, and another for Best Hard Rock Performance for their hit song, ‘I Stay Away.’ The band’s guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, lately made an appearance at the 60th birthday celebration of Anthrax’s Scott Ian
