A variety of stunning photographs encompassing the theme of “wilderness” were sent to us by our readers from all over the world. Each photo displays the vastness and beauty of nature, and is a testament to the awe-inspiring power and majesty of the natural world.
Jerry Hughes sent in a photograph of rivers of glacial meltwater winding through Iceland’s southern highlands, and how the late afternoon sun illuminates the mossy slopes of mountains on the other side. Mike Wright shared an image of Dartmoor, the last wilderness in southern England, and Crazywell Cross, one of many crosses helping travellers find their way.
Simon Davis submitted a striking photograph of the Uyuni salt flats during the dry season in Bolivia, showing what he imagines purgatory would look like. Meanwhile, Adrian Lavery shared “our own wilderness,” the Mourne Mountains in County Down, located a mere 40 minutes from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Amongst the other breathtaking photos are snapshots of fishing in one of Iceland’s best salmon rivers, a solo tree on Bleaklow Moor, and a young girl gazing out towards the desolation of the Abu Dhabi desert in the United Arab Emirates.
The next photo theme is “towers,” and the deadline for submissions is February 6th, 2024. Keep an eye out for the photographs on the In Pictures section of the BBC News website, where they will be featured alongside other galleries. Submit your own entries on the webpage provided or send them via email to yourpics@bbc.co.uk. Please note that all photographs are subject to copyright
