After a five year hiatus from music, Jess Glynne is set to release her latest single, Enough. However, the singer has revealed in a recent interview with The Telegraph that she was “deeply unhappy” in her music career and questioned returning after receiving death threats during a backlash in 2021. Glynne was accused of transphobia after using a slur, which caused her to delete her social media accounts.
“The way I said it wasn’t even an attack, it was actually me celebrating a community that I’m a part of, and that I love,” Glynne explained. “And instead of that community being supportive…there were death threats and all these awful things.” The artist reflected on her personal struggles that led up to her period away from music, which included burnout and hospitalization with exhaustion after her 2019 world tour.
The death of her grandmother and close friend also left Glynne “scared to go back into the studio.” Despite her struggles, Glynne has seven UK number ones to her name and has signed with a new record label, Jay Z’s Roc Nation. In addition to discussing her music career, Glynne also touched on her relationship with presenter and former England footballer Alex Scott.
As Glynne prepares to release her new album, she hopes it will tell a story about vulnerability and power. “I want it to be unapologetic,” she said.
While the backlash and criticism she faced were incredibly difficult, Glynne hopes that her return to music will be a positive one as she releases new songs and shares her journey through music with her fans
