Hot Hot Heat confirm “with apology, sadness and some embarrassment” that their reunion is over

Canadian band Hot Hot Heat has announced that they are back on hiatus once again after briefly returning in late 2020. The band had taken a seven-year break before releasing a new single, ‘Shock Me’. However, their reunion did not last long as lead singer Steve Bays “could not participate”. In a statement posted on Instagram, the band explained that their brief comeback was inspiring but had to be called off. Dante DeCaro and Paul Hawley, however, are considering collaborating on new music for a different project.

The band’s last self-titled album was released in 2016, 14 years after their debut record, ‘Make Up The Breakdown’. The band, which carries five members, managed to celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary in 2021. Produced by Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Sonic Youth producer Jack Endino, ‘Make Up…’ was hailed as “joyously bold [and] emotionally rounded” by NME in a glowing review.

DeCaro and Hawley expressed their apologies, embarrassment, and sadness in the statement released on Instagram. Even though their reunion was called off, the two are grateful for the short ride that reignited their passion and reminded them of the great experiences they shared together. They are also proud of the new song that the band produced, and they remain hopeful that they will continue producing music in the future.

Hot Hot Heat has performed exceptionally well over the years. They released five albums, with ‘Mind Chaos’ appearing as their most commercially successful album, peaking at No. 147 on the Billboard 200. Despite not having a lengthy career, the band’s style of music remains engaging, and fans hope that they will reunite again soon.

The music industry has suffered a great deal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with live performances prohibited in many areas. Even though Hot Hot Heat has temporarily disbanded again, their music will continue to impact the industry for years to come. Fans can only anticipate what the band has in store for the future and how they will keep making great music
