Bambie Thug selected as Ireland’s Eurovision 2024 act

Ireland has selected Bambie Thug to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The self-described “ouija pop” artist won with their song ‘Doomsday Blue’ at the annual Eurosong contest after receiving the most combined votes from viewers, national and international juries. The artist, who was born in Macroom, County Cork and is now based in London, has written music with other artists such as Cassyette and Kid Brunswick, and has performed at The Great Escape and Download Festival.

‘Doomsday Blue’ is a song that “deals with being overlooked and having your potential ignored,” according to the artist. In their Eurosong VT, Bambie Thug added that, as a non-binary person, they represent “a massive proportion of our country that is under-represented.”

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden, and the Grand Final is due to be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024. If Bambie Thug makes it to the Grand Final, they will be up against Olly Alexander, who will be representing the UK.

Other artists competing to represent Ireland this year were Isabella Kearney, Erica-Cody, AILSHA, JyellowL, and Next In Line. In other Eurovision news, more than 1,400 Finnish music industry professionals signed a petition earlier this month urging for Israel to be banned from this year’s contest over alleged “war crimes” in Gaza, adding that if Israel is not excluded, they want public broadcaster Yle to withdraw Finland’s entry
