Sunny Day Real Estate return with new single and announce 30th anniversary tour

First coming together in the 90s, American rock group Sunny Day Real Estate have dropped their first single in a decade. ‘Novum Vetus’ was teased earlier this week through Instagram and disseminated later through other social media. Alongside the solo, the band has declared its intention to put on a range of shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of their acclaimed album ‘Diary’.

Although the new song is recent, it was actually first recorded during the 90s for the group’s album ‘How It Feels to Be Something On’, long before the band’s hiatus. However, now, the three original members have finally collaborated once again with Chris Jordan and Greg Suran. The song is performed over a minimalist video reading “novum vetus,” which can translate from Latin as “everything old is new again”.

To coincide with the new release, Sunny Day Real Estate have also planned a range of live concerts for fans. Commencing on March 13th in Lawrence, Kansas, the tour will journey through Raleigh, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City. A second group of shows will then commence on August 14th in Dallas, before travelling through Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and winding up in Los Angeles.

Sunny Day Real Estate is no stranger to bust-ups; the band split on bad terms last time. Drummer William Goldsmith claimed on his Facebook page that the group’s fifth record was “silenced, abandoned and buried within the murkiest depths of David Grohl’s sock drawer.” But the band have since reconnected and even performed their first live show in more than a decade in Spokane, Washington. There, they played alongside new bassist Chris Jordan and original members, Dan Hoerner and Jeremy Enigk.

For fans of the group, there’s even more good news: Sunny Day Real Estate has re-recorded ‘Diary’ live. The new recording is set to be issued on May 3
