Morrissey, English musician and former lead singer of The Smiths, has cancelled his upcoming concerts marking the 20th anniversary of his album ‘You Are The Quarry’ due to unforeseen circumstances. The two shows were planned at the Honda Center in Anaheim and the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Both venues have stated that tickets will be automatically refunded to the purchasers.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Morrissey has cancelled shows. Last year, he cancelled his concert scheduled for London’s Crystal Palace in July and announced a tour of the UK and Ireland during the same month but then cancelled the new show scheduled for the same day in Nottingham. In both cancellations, the venues hosting the shows cited “unforeseen circumstances”.
These cancellations come during Morrissey’s battle with Capitol Records over the release of his forthcoming album, ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’. The album was initially set to be released in February 2023 and featured production from Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne and Post Malone associate, Andrew Watt. However, Morrissey later revealed that he had “voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records (Los Angeles)” and that Miley Cyrus had requested for her feature to be withdrawn from the album.
Earlier this year, Morrissey took to his official website to write a blog titled ‘CANCEL CULTURE BEGINS AT HOME’, in which he claimed that he was being deleted from being the “central essence” of The Smiths. Quoting their debut single ‘Hand In Glove’, he concluded: “Hand in glove, I stake my claim! I’ll fight to the last breath!”
It is unclear if Morrissey will reschedule the cancelled shows or when ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ will be released
