Liverpool City Council has launched a public consultation on its equality objectives, inviting residents and workers to have their say in shaping the city’s aims for the next four years. The Council is committed to creating a fairer, more inclusive, and equal city and designing these values into all of its work and decisions. The equality objectives are established every four years to guide the Council in achieving better outcomes for communities, residents, and employees. The objectives include promoting equality, tackling discrimination and harassment, and fostering good relationships between different groups.
The Council is seeking views on its draft equality objectives for 2024 to 2028, which focus on reducing inequality and improving life chances by targeting resources where needed, supporting the city’s most vulnerable citizens, and delivering on plans for inclusive economic growth. Liverpool intends to lead the way in celebrating diversity and combatting inequality through inclusive leadership and decision-making based on excellent data and impact assessments, impactful partnerships, and integrating equality, diversity, and inclusion into its core policies and strategies.
The Council is also keen to promote better communication and relationships between the city’s diverse communities, building confidence and a sense of belonging and understanding local needs. Furthermore, the objectives aim to provide and commission excellent, inclusive services that engage actively with residents’ needs, and use different delivery models and partnerships. Finally, the Council intends to be an inclusive employer that reflects Liverpool’s diverse communities at all levels of the organization, thus ensuring that all members, elected or otherwise, have the necessary skills, values, and knowledge to promote inclusivity.
The quick online survey is open until Thursday 15 February 2024 and is open to anyone living or working in the city or affiliated with a local group or organization. The goal is to create a city that welcomes and respects diversity, fosters positive relationships, and fulfils the needs of all its citizens. Alternative survey formats are available on request to enable the broadest possible participation
