Sir Elton John has revealed that he will soon release his new book “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life on Tour.” Set to be published by Disney Publishing imprint Hyperion Avenue, fans can expect a photo memoir about his five-year farewell tour. The book will also feature behind-the-scenes snaps of the stage’s design, his Gucci-designed wardrobe, celebrity attendees, posters, sketches and more. Additionally, Rocket Entertainment CEO David Furnish will contribute a foreword to the memoir.
The Rocket Club fanclub and fans will be able to pre-order the book on Elton John’s official webstore. The book is scheduled for release on September 24, but pre-orders will ship two weeks earlier to members of the fanclub. The memoir will take readers on an intimate journey behind Elton John’s final tour, which started in Allentown, PA, and ended in Stockholm, Sweden, with shows all around the globe in between.
Originally scheduled to conclude in 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic and hip injury forced John to postpone the remaining UK and European tour dates in September 2021. This led to the tour’s extension into 2023. Nonetheless, the tour’s continuation in 2022 brought some of John’s most notable shows, including his last North American concert at Dodger Stadium. The show included performances from Dua Lipa, Brandie Carlile, and Kiki Dee. It was also broadcast on Disney+ and later edited and released as a concert film under the title “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.” The film earned John an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 2024 ceremony, where he finally achieved EGOT status.
NME reviewed Elton John’s final UK concert at Glastonbury and awarded it five stars. Andrew Trendell praised the concert’s perfect setlist, significant guest appearances, and outstanding performance, stating it was a momentous setlist from one of the all-time greats, and we’ll never see another artist like him.
