‘The Last Of Us Part 2’ nearly had an even darker ending

The developers behind The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered have revealed a surprise regarding a completely different ending that was initially intended for the game. Narrative lead Halley Gross and game director Neil Druckmann shared that one of the children in the game, Lev, would have been killed off at the same time as his sister Yara, resulting in a darker ending overall. The original script proposed that Ellie, the main character of the game, should kill Abby, a fellow playable character who had killed Ellie’s father figure Joel earlier in the game. However, the final game ends with Ellie choosing to spare Abby, hoping to stop the cycle of violence and revenge.

The final game’s ending also features Ellie heading back to her farm in Jackson, where she meets a new character who instantly attacks her out of revenge for Ellie killing their child. Ellie loses two fingers during the ensuing fight, but this was changed in the final game to show Abby biting off her fingers in a dramatic struggle. NME reviewed The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered and stated that while it was depressing, it was still worth playing, with beautiful character development and a complicated, emotional narrative.

Meanwhile, The Day Before developer, Fntastic, released a statement addressing several issues surrounding the game and claiming that the game’s cancellation was due to a “hate campaign.” Persona 3 Reload is also shaping up to be a must-play game in the world of gaming remakes
