Tierra Whack is set to release her first full-length album since 2018, titled ‘World Wide Whack’. The Philadelphia rapper announced the upcoming album on Instagram, unveiling its cover shot by conceptual artist Alex De Corte. While it is technically her second album, Whack calls it her “debut album” due to the amount of time she has spent working on it. The first single from the album, ‘Shower Song’, is set to be released on January 26.
According to Pitchfork, the album’s press release states that the album’s cover is “the first reveal of the World Wide Whack character, an alter ego both untouchable and vulnerable, superhuman, and painfully human, whose surprising story will unfold in images and video over the course of the album’s visual rollout.” The statement cites 17th-century Italian clown Pierrot, fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, and Donna Summer as inspirations for the character.
Whack’s last full-length release was ‘Whack World’ in 2018, an album inspired by her experiences growing up being bullied in a predominantly white school. Since then, she has released a series of three genre-themed EPs titled ‘Rap?’, ‘Pop?’, and ‘R&B?’. ‘Rap?’ received a three-star review from NME, highlighting Whack’s skills as a formidable artist with resounding musicality.
Whack was recently featured in Willow Smith’s 2021 album ‘Lately I Feel Everything’, alongside Travis Barker, Avril Lavigne, and Cherry Glazerr. In 2022, she was arrested and charged for disorderly conduct after reportedly bringing a loaded gun to the Philadelphia International Airport
