The nominees for Best Original Song at the Oscars have been announced. Among them are Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ and Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’. The two tracks were created for the film ‘Barbie’, which has also been nominated for Best Picture at this year’s ceremony.
Other nominees in the category are ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)’ from ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, ‘It Never Went Away’ by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson from ‘American Symphony’, and ‘The Fire Inside’ by Diane Warren from ‘Flamin’ Hot’.
This is Eilish’s second nomination for Best Original Song at the Oscars. She previously won in this category in 2022 for her work on the title track of the James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’. ‘What Was I Made For?’ was written by Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell and has also been nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at this year’s Grammys.
If Eilish were to win, she would join a prestigious group of composers to have won multiple Academy Awards for Best Original Song, including Elton John, Randy Newman, Burt Bacharach, Tim Rice, and Giorgio Moroder.
The Oscars ceremony is taking place on March 10 from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Jimmy Kimmel will be returning to present the awards for the fourth time. ‘Oppenheimer’ leads the way with 13 nominations, followed by ‘Poor Things’ with 11 nods and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ with 10.
