The Magic Gang announce split and farewell shows

The Magic Gang has decided to split up after more than a decade of being together. In a joint statement, the band members – Jack Kaye, Kris Smith, Gus Taylor, and Paeris Giles – said that they are ending their journey as a group to focus on their individual creative pursuits. They expressed their gratitude to their fans, saying that it was their support which made their experiences so incredible.

To celebrate their time together, the band will perform three farewell shows in May in Glasgow, Manchester, and London. The announcement has saddened their fans as many are still hoping for more music from the band. Tickets for these shows go on sale on January 29th.

The Magic Gang was formed in 2013 in Kris’ parents’ house. Kaye recollected how the band name ‘The Magic Gang’ was chosen, and how it was written on a kick drum to make it official. The band’s first song ‘Bruises’ was recorded in their shared house in Brighton, and it was then that Gus was drafted in to play bass.

The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2018, and their second album ‘Death of the Party’ came in 2020. ‘Death Of The Party’ was a Northern Soul-influenced album that was described by NME as “timeless and genre-blurring”. It was a blend of genres that took the band towards something timeless. As the band members focus on their individual pursuits, fans are hoping that they’ll collaborate once again in the future
