Last weekend, Saturday Night Live took a dig at former U.S. President Donald Trump for suggesting that sick voters should vote for him even if they die afterward. During his Iowa caucuses campaign, Trump had suggested that his supporters should vote for him regardless of their condition and even if it meant risking their lives. Johnson’s Trump impersonation made several jokes about his legal troubles and bragged about his Iowa win. The president’s impersonator said, “My people love me… ‘Oh darling, I’m dying. I gotta do one last thing. I gotta vote for Trump.'”
While James Austin Johnson, the President’s impersonator, joked about his legal troubles, the impersonator did not shy away from making fun of his controversial comments. In the impersonation, Trump remarks “We just need them to stay alive until November. Stay alive until November. Just pull that lever and drop dead. Why? Because I am sent by God and God has a plan for me, or whatever. 2024’s going to be a very exciting year. I’m either going to jail, be president, or frankly The Purge. Perhaps all three. Let’s spin the chamber”. SNL is known for its political satire which has often landed them into controversies.
On SNL’s latest episode, actress Rachel McAdams, who played Regina George in the original Mean Girls film, made a surprise cameo to introduce the special musical guest, Reneé Rapp. Rapp, who plays Regina in the new Mean Girls film, performed “Not My Fault” from the movie, and Megan The Stallion made a surprise cameo during the song.
SNL has frequently lampooned former President Trump, gaining a massive following for its political satire and off-the-beat humor. Once again, the show took a shot at the former president, making unique commentary on his poor advice to his likely supporters. This was a humorous take that is unlikely to go unnoticed
