Culture Liverpool is offering grants for creative individuals and organizations working in dance. The Dance Creative Commission Grant will be a one-off event and the funding will be used to commission new dance pieces that will be showcased during the Leap Dance Festival. For the first time since the pandemic, the festival will be held this year, giving dancers, professionals, and communities the chance to come together in venues across the City Region.
Applicants can apply for grants ranging from £300 to £3,000, and submissions need to be high quality, inclusive, generate a positive social impact, and foster a sense of pride in Liverpool and its communities. All submissions should be part of the Leap Dance Festival, either in-person or digitally.
The Liverpool City Council is partnering with the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to provide the funding for the grant. The deadline for submissions is on the 10th of February 2024. Liverpool-based artists and organizations who work with local communities, freelance artists, and small collectives, who have all the necessary insurances in place, are welcome to apply.
In April and May 2024, the Leap Dance Festival will take place. Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle said, “These grants are really important in promoting cultural enrichment and boosting Liverpool’s dance offer, which in turn fosters community cohesion by allowing people to come together, share experiences and build connections.” Director of Leap Dance Festival, Paul Doyle, added, “We are delighted that Culture Liverpool is able to support local dance artists with opportunities to create and perform their work in the city. It is a positive step towards rebuilding the dance sector in the region and ensuring dance is visible year-round within the cultural calendar.”
