Sheffield will host a three-day event, MOBO Awards Sheffield – The Fringe, leading up to the first-ever award ceremony on February 7. The event will feature various celebrations of Black, African and Caribbean culture in the city including a talent showcase at the Crucible Theatre, workshops, expert panel discussions, and a customised market.
The Fringe Fest has been organised by Sheffield City Council in collaboration with MOBO and members of the local community. Sheffield city councillor Martin Smith shared his thoughts on the event, saying “It will see the city embrace both the beats and flavours of Africa and the Caribbean and is a testament to the power of the music and culture on offer in our city. MOBO Awards Sheffield – The Fringe is going to be an unforgettable experience for Sheffield and our communities, and I hope everyone is able to get involved and enjoy what’s on offer.”
Local schools will also get the opportunity to explore the impact of Black music and culture in the city while a celebration of Sheffield’s Black culture will take place at the Winter Garden on the day of the event. Over 25 stalls and music acts will be featured at the gathering.
The MOBO Awards Sheffield’s first-ever ceremony will take place at the Utilita Arena. Babatúndé Aléshé and presenter Indiyah Polack were announced to host the ceremony. DJ Spoony, Byron Messia, and Soul II Soul have confirmed live performances, and many more live acts will be announced. Nominees for the ceremony were announced in December with Little Mix and Stormzy leading with four nods each. Central Cee, PinkPantheress, J Hus, and Raye fetched three nominations each
