Actor Alec Baldwin has been indicted for involuntary manslaughter following the death of a crew member while on the set of the movie, Rust in October 2021. The grand jury in New Mexico has indicted the actor for the same offence in January 2022 after earlier charges were dropped in April. Santa Fe prosecutors brought the case against him after receiving an updated analysis of the weapon in use at the time of the incident from forensic testing.
Baldwin was producing and lead acting a Western movie named Rust just outside Santa Fe in October 2021 when a bullet from a prop gun fired by him killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he only drew back the hammer of the pistol and did not pull the trigger. Additionally, special prosecutors in New Mexico have found that the gun could not have been fired without a trigger pull.
Earlier in January, the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was charged with evidence tampering and two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Her trial is expected to take place on February 21 2024.
Baldwin’s attorneys have said that they are looking forward to their day in court. Baldwin has been publically remorseful and has apologised for the incident on numerous occasions
