Green Day has released a music video for their latest track ‘Bobby Sox’. The song appears on their 14th studio album ‘Saviors’, which was released on January 19. Other singles released from the album prior to the album launch include ‘Dilemma’, ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ and ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’.
In an interview with the LA Times, Billie Joe Armstrong talked about ‘Bobby Sox’, stating that it explores gender fluidity in its lyrics. He says he received an emotional response from a friend upon listening to the song’s second verse. Armstrong elaborates that such fluidity is more common among younger generations nowadays, whereas it was not as widely accepted back when Green Day was first starting out in the late 80s and early 90s.
Armstrong also discusses the band’s thoughts on the moral panic surrounding trans issues, declaring it to be “fucking close-minded”. He believes that people should not be afraid of their children and that they should be allowed to be who they are.
In other news, it was confirmed that both Green Day’s third studio album, Dookie, and their seventh studio album, American Idiot, will be played in full by the band during their 2024 ‘Saviors’ world tour. The tour will feature special guests such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Nothing But Thieves, The Hives, The Interrupters, Rancid, The Linda Lindas, and Maid Of Ace, among others.
Overall, ‘Saviors’ has been received positively, being compared to various past works by the band. The release comes at an exciting time for Green Day, as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Dookie’ and the 20th anniversary of their iconic album, ‘American Idiot’.
