The Soft Moon musician Luis Vasquez has died at the age of 44. Vasquez released six albums of post-punk music on US indie labels Captured Tracks and Sacred Bones between 2010 and 2022. The musician’s passing was announced on the soft moon’s official Instagram account, though the cause of death remains private.
Vasquez was remembered by friends and collaborators online. Band HEALTH said, “I’m glad we were lucky enough to make some music with you. This is heartbreaking,” while Primavera Sound Festival described Vasquez as “an artist we have welcomed in several editions of Primavera Sound as well as tours around Spain and Portugal” and wrote that “we will miss him greatly. Rest in peace.”
It was also reported that Vasquez died in the same incident that killed Sandwell District member Juan Mendez and his partner Simone Ling. Further tributes from publications, fans and friends have poured in on social media.
