Lowe accidentally sent a congratulations text to Bradley Cooper when the message was meant for Robert Downey Jr., following the Golden Globe awards. Cooper was nominated for best actor in a drama, but he lost out to Cillian Murphy for his performance in Oppenheimer. Meanwhile, Downey Jr. won the award for best supporting actor in a drama for his performance in the same movie.
Lowe said that he accidentally sent the text to Cooper, saying: “So glad you won. That is the most beautiful acceptance speech I’ve heard in a long time. Boy do you deserve it.” Realizing his mistake, Lowe attempted to explain the error to Cooper, saying: “No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr.” Lowe said that he ended up making Cooper feel worse, and the experience was terrible.
At the same ceremony, Downey Jr. thanked the cast and crew of Oppenheimer in his acceptance speech. The movie won five of the eight Golden Globe awards for which it was nominated.
Oppenheimer is also poised for success at the upcoming BAFTA awards, where it received 13 nominations, including for Best Film and Best Director. Christopher Nolan directed the biopic, and it has been popular with audiences and critics alike.
Despite Lowe’s embarrassing mistake, the spirit of congratulating his fellow actors is in line with the spirit of award shows, which are seen as a celebration of the best in the industry. It’s just that texting the wrong person can be a bit awkward
