Newham: Newborn baby girl found wrapped in towel in bag

Police have said that a newborn baby girl was found wrapped in a towel inside a shopping bag in east London. The member of the public who found her kept her warm until the paramedics arrived. The baby was found in Newham and was discovered unharmed in any way. She is safe and currently at a hospital. Met Police are appealing for the baby’s mother to contact them. They are reassured and advise her that the baby is safe and well. They have encouraged the mother to seek help and dial 999, despite her situation.

The police were immediately informed when a dog walker found the baby at the junction of Greenway and High Street South, at about 9:15 pm GMT on Thursday. Ch Supt Simon Crick said that taking care and keeping the baby warm saved her life. The police remain concerned about the mother’s welfare as she would have had to undergo a difficult time. They are urging the mother to seek help by getting in touch with them through the phone or visiting any police station or hospital.

The police have asked anyone who might know the baby’s mother to contact them. Met Police have been praised by local residents for their prompt action, which led to saving the baby’s life. The member of the public who found the baby girl is known to have kept her warm for about fifteen minutes while they waited for the ambulance. Police say the baby is approximately one-day-old. The incident remains under investigation by the police.
