Bridgend: Large fire breaks out at industrial estate

A fire broke out in Bridgend Industrial Estate in south Wales on Friday evening, causing significant damage to a building. Local residents reported hearing a “large bang” before noticing bright orange flames and billows of smoke. The fire appears to have been at industrial building developer Formaction Limited on Kingsway. According to eyewitness accounts, the entire building seems to have been affected. Several emergency service vehicles were at the scene, including police, fire, and ambulance services.

Residents expressed shock at the intensity of the fire, with some nearby drivers reporting that they could feel the heat even within their cars. Courtney Lamont-Hughes, 18, who was driving by the industrial estate when she saw the fire, told the BBC that “it looks like a massive building, lots of offices, it’s taken out the whole building.” At least five fire vehicles were present, as well as police and the ambulance services. The area was evacuated.

Although firefighters are still dealing with the fire, Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, although a spokesperson from Formaction Limited has stated that they have “no idea” how the fire started and that it would be made clear in the coming days. South Wales Fire Service was alerted to the scene at 20:23 GMT and dispatched 10 fire engines along with eight other appliances as an aerial platform and turntable ladders.

The industrial estate remains cordoned off as emergency services continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The immediate impact of this blaze on Formaction Limited, which develops industrial buildings and units, is unclear at this point
