During a tour of the White House whilst filming for the second season of HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’, Aubrey Plaza revealed that she stole a note from Joe Biden’s desk which referred to their previous meeting. Plaza had previously met Biden at a “Joe Biden youth-leadership conference” when she was 16, where she spoke candidly to him. Plaza shared that she had a “stare-down” with the then Vice President after being asked how the conference went, and raised her hand immediately to tell him that “it’s bulls—. This conference sucks. You didn’t let us talk. This was supposed to be about the students.” It was not until returning to the White House to film ‘The White Lotus’ that Plaza discovered a note on Biden’s desk which read “Aubrey Plaza – Wilmington, Delaware. You met her at the Joe Biden youth-leadership conference when she was 16”.
Despite Michael Schur, the creator of ‘Parks and Recreation’ advising her not to do so, Plaza decided to pocket the note after feeling assured that Biden was unaware of who she was. “He doesn’t remember me at all!”, she exclaimed to Schur. “I don’t give a shit! I know what he did!”. Plaza has since admitted to losing the note and remarked on the fact she could have framed it or even sold it, given that Biden is now President of the United States.
Whilst speaking to ‘The New Yorker’, Plaza disclosed how Biden’s career intersects with her own experiences, as well as her father’s, who was an immigrant from Puerto Rico. Aside from meeting Biden at one of his conferences, Plaza’s father had his first job when Biden was a new senator in Delaware. Plaza also shared the memory of her father being the only Democratic precinct captain in his county, in which Biden was defeated by the Republican candidate. “Joe Biden doesn’t like to lose,” remarked Plaza.
