The city of Liverpool is experiencing a widespread impact from the snow this morning, with traffic remaining slow despite the efforts of the city’s gritters. The gritters have been out on a double run overnight on the major roads throughout the city, with seven gritting vehicles treating approximately 600 kilometers of roads. Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Laura Robertson-Collins, explains the gritting process in a video. A further review of gritting across the city is set to take place later this morning.

As refuse vehicles have found conditions difficult for collections to be conducted safely, all residential waste collections including bulky waste have ceased due to traffic issues caused by the snow and ice. If bins have not been collected, they will be collected the next day, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday. The collection dates can be checked online.

The streetscene staff are currently on targeted snow clearance in the city centre, schools, hospitals, transport hubs and shopping areas. Staff have also been deployed to top up the grit bins across the city. Liverpool has an interactive map on which people can find their nearest community grit bin and view gritting routes by entering their postcode.

Liverpool has been struggling with ice and snow in recent days, and as such, many people are finding it difficult to go about their daily lives as normal. Children have been unable to attend school due to school closures and the public transportation system is experiencing issues due to the snow and ice. However, the city is doing what it can to keep the roads and walkways as safe as possible for people who need to get out and about
