Taskmaster fans are in for a treat as the line-up for series 17 of the popular show has now been announced. The cast was shown in a trailer following the Taskmaster Champion of Champions 3 special show that aired on Channel 4 on January 14. Fans can expect to see Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed and Inside No. 9 co-creator Steve Pemberton among the cast, alongside Sophie Willan, Joanne McNally, and John Robins. Although a confirmed air date hasn’t been given, the new season is expected to debut in the first half of 2024.
Fans of Taskmaster now also have a chance to compete on the show via a new live experience, as hosts Greg Davies and Alex Horne announced plans for a Taskmaster: The Live Experience. They plan to let viewers “take part in the same ludicrous tasks that these so-called comedians do”. To gauge interest in the idea, Horne and Davies have started a sign-up mailing list with the hope of getting 100,000 sign-ups. This initiative seems to have excited show fans, as many are keen to have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills alongside the comedians.
The last season saw comedians Lucy Beaumont, Sam Campbell, Sue Perkins, Julian Clary, and Susan Wokoma compete against each other in a series of hilarious tasks. Recently, a special episode that had aired to commemorate the New Year had contestants London rapper Kojey Radical, presenter Zoe Ball, Dragon’s Den’s Deborah Meaden, wildlife expert Steve Backshall, and comic actor Lenny Rush. Introduced on Dave in 2015, Taskmaster has continued to evolve with the times and now has a new home on Channel 4 as well as plans for a live version.
The success of the show and the eagerness of fans to possibly participate in the live experience is a testament to how much people appreciate humor in these challenging times. Hopefully, Taskmaster will continue to keep its hold on audiences and bring as much joy and laughter to viewers as it has in previous seasons
