The Black Crowes announce first new album since 2009

The Black Crowes will release their first album of new music in 15 years with ‘Happiness Bastards’. The Southern rock band revealed the full-length release on Instagram on Friday, sharing a video of a man pasting album posters over brick walls covered in their old album covers. Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson commented on the significance of the album in a press release. “The Robinson Brothers are claiming this momentous year as their own,” it read. “While they have dealt with their share of differences over the years, they are now two happy bastards, with a triumphant album to show for it.”

Happiness Bastards drops on March 15, with the announcement being accompanied by the release of the album’s first single, ‘Wanting And Waiting.’ According to Consequence, the album marks the band’s love letter to rock n’ roll. In the 15 years since their last album of new music, The Black Crowes only released live recordings, re-workings of old material and their 2022 covers EP, ‘1972’.

Chris and Rich Robinson originally split The Black Crowes in 2015 following a disagreement over ownership of the band. The estranged brothers announced a reunion tour in 2019, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1990 debut, ‘Shake Your Money Maker’. However, the tour had to be rescheduled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the band announcing in 2021 that the tour would take place in 2022 instead.

‘Happiness Bastards’ was produced by Jay Joyce, who has worked with artists such as Carrie Underwood, Orville Peck, Eric Church, and FIDLAR. The Black Crowes’ lead singer Chris Robinson revealed that the album represents the band’s ongoing passion for music and an expression of what the band is all about. Guitarist Rich Robinson also expressed his pride about the album, stating that he is incredibly proud of everything they have been able to put together, particularly their experience touring worldwide.

The Black Crowes’ ‘Happiness Bastards’ is their first full-length album of original material since 2009’s ‘Before The Frost… Until The Freeze’. The announcement of their new album and upcoming tour have been celebrated by their loyal fans, and it is clear that The Black Crowes have cemented their place in the world of rock’n’roll.
