A man who was caught on camera stealing a Taylor Swift poster from a cinema in Tulsa, Oklahoma last month has inspired a new song by bluegrass musician Billy Strings. The thief was seen wearing a Billy Strings hat and leaving with the 6×4 poster, which had been displayed in a glass frame. Tulsa police posted a request for help identifying the man on social media, adding that the theft caused damage worth thousands of dollars. They wrote, “it’s not cool to destroy other people’s things and abscond with stuff that doesn’t belong to you”.
Strings’ song, which was posted on social media, comes with the lyrics: “Down in Tulsa, Oklahoma there’s a movie theatre there / They play lots of movies from Step Brothers to Con Air / And they’ve been playing concerts that old Taylor Swift had done / And some old boy walked in and ripped a poster down from one“. Posting a live performance of the song on Instagram, Strings also warned fans not to steal other people’s stuff, even if they are fans of Swift.
Billy Strings is a Grammy-winning bluegrass musician who won the award for Best Bluegrass Album for his fourth studio album ‘Home’ in 2021. His latest offering, ‘Renewal’, was released in the same year.
